Operation Write Home - midweek throwdown

This week the midweek throwdown at Operation Write Home was a color challenge.  It was Christmas Day so the challenge was to make a green and white card or a red and white card.  Of course, Christmas is over so the challenge was to create a card with another theme.  This is what I came up with:

all 3 cards I made shown together

stamps from SU morning meadow

same card but I embossed the background and moved image to other side

SU best of flowers set and sentiment from SU express yourself

Baby Album made with CTMH products

I've been working on a Christmas present .. and it's finished!!   I made a cute little baby album for my boyfriend's mother.  The pictures are of her great-grandson Abrahm. The pages of the album and some of the embellishments were cut with the Artbooking cartridge from Close to My Heart.  The stickers and papers are from the babycakes line also from CTMH.  It went together so quickly and turned out so cute that I had to share.

these two pages are pocket pages so I could put in several more photos. He is such a cute baby that we have several photos of him!

OWH sketch challenge 194

another Sunday, another sketch at Operation Write Home
this week's sketch looked intimidating with all the layers but thanks to the measurements that are always given with an OWH sketch it went together real quickly.

I used this week's color challenge at Splitcoast Stampers - bermuda bay, chocolate chip and real red and the stamps are from the SU set Simply Sketched

scrap your stash challenge

The ScrapRoom blog is doing a "scrap your stash" challenge and I've decided to take the challenge.
45 minutes last night, and another 45 minutes plus this afternoon has gotten me 3 cards and 1 layout using the sketches from the stash challenge

On the layout I used some very old scenic route papers and embellishments
the cards use doodlebug paper scraps and a hero arts snowman stamp with some very old Merry Christmas rub on sentiments.

thanks for looking at what I have done in week number 1 of the challenge :)

the green marker I use scanned a really, weird color .. it is more of the color of green in the paper in real life!

SP traditional Christmas Challenge

Yesterday I received a new cardmaking tool  - the envelope punch board from Stampin' Up.  I've seen some really cool file folder style cards made using this tool so of course my first project had to be a file folder card!

The picture doesn't show this card it's full effect.  It's very dark and cloudy here so I scanned it instead of taking a picture and the file tab doesn't show well.  It' traditional Christmas week at the SP blog (Scrapmasters Paradise) so I made a Christmas card using the Christmas Medley stamp set from SP & Co stamps. (and the green snowflakes match better in real life, the scanner scaned them off color a bit)   The Ho Ho Ho is a rub on sentiment. This is of course is an envelope punch board so here is the card with a matching envelope:

I made the envelope with red cardstock and then lined the top with matching designer paper.  Actually the paper was to be the envelope but I messed it up - here's a tip if you ever use the board, follow the directions for a 4.25 x 5.5 card and not the directions for an A2 card!!  The envelope for A2 wasn't the right size, but the other was the correct size.  I don't know why because for me A2 is the same as 4.25 x 5.5 but it isn't on this board.

Thanks for looking at my first project with my new toy :)

OWH birthday bash card class!

At Operation Write Home they are celebrating their birthday all month!  As one of the birthday celebrations for a donation you could get a MFT stamp set with some ribbons and then on September 12 they had a coloring class for those stamps.

The stamp I received was the bunny stamp set.  I used prismacolor pencils to color my image.  I've decided that I need a better sharpener to get a better point on my pencil and I think that they will work better.  Even though I wasn't pleased with the pencil I can say that I like how the card turned out

More VCMP cards!

Posting the last few cards I made for this weekend's virtual cardmaking party at Operation Write Home.  There were 10 challenges and I finished 8 of them so far ... may get to the other 2 at a later date.  I made multiple cards for some challenges so I finished with 19 cards for the weekend!

The final challenge on Saturday was to use masking tape to create a background.  This was Donna's challenge and it was an interesting one, but it sure was fun!

I used red ink on masking tape that was wrapped around my acrylic block for both cards.  Fun!  Both images cut with the cricut machine.   I will definitely try this technique again.

The final challenge of the weekend was to use a negative cut/punch on your card.  I sort of cheated with this card as I let my cricut do the work!   I have the art philosphy cartridge from Close To My Heart and it has many cuts on there for cards with negative images such as hearts, trees, stars, flowers, etc.  I made several of them, some plain, some I stamped a sentiment on, but I'm just sharing one of them

VCMP Bee Challenge!

The 8th challenge for Operation Write Home is an Un-Bee-lievable Challenge!  That's right .. the challenge is to use a Bee on our card plus a sentiment using a bee type saying

I know I don't have a bee stamp in my regular stamps, I thought I had one in my digital stamps but I couldn't find it so I decide to make one with the Walk in My Garden cricut cartridge.  The cart has two bee images so I made two cards.  On both of them I also embossed with my honeycomb embossing folder

This first card I also used the "be happy" sentiment from the cartridge, I cut out bee twice and added the extra e for the sentiment part of the challenge

On this card I created the sentiment with rub-ons.  I happened to have a package of them that said Just Because, here again I combined two of them to get the "bee"

VCMP challenge #7

this challenge was to make a fall card using one of the former sketches
and as I've been doing all day I made 2 cards :)

OWH VCMP challenge 4

The VCMP challenge #4 was to make a love themed card using sketch #29 from the archives at OWH

I made 2 cards, the first one follows the sketch exactly
on the second one I was just going to flip it, but the way my papers went I kind of did a little moving of the sentiment panel and making the strip cover the whole card
I used button on both cards for a weekend challenge to use a button on a project at Piece of Scrap

The sentiment is more of a humorous theme but I thought it would be cute for a fall card!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my cards!

OWH sketch challenge 188

Sunday means a new sketch challenge at Operation Write Home.  On this particular Sunday it is also challenge 6 for the weekend cardmaking party

I made two of these for my next box of card to send.  The second card I didn't scan but it is different as the button as one of the little birds on it instead of the snowman.

Labor Day VCMP

Woo Hoo!  It's time for another holiday weekend Virtual Cardmaking Party (VCMP) at Operation Write Home

Challenge 1 was to use the sketch provided and make a Christmas card
this is the card I made using my paper scraps:

Challenge 2 was to use the letters from Operation Write Home and make a card.  I chose to use
O- one word sentiment
W- white color
H- holly decoration
for this card:

I only had enough crafting time to get the first two challenges done on Saturday.  We'll see how many more I can get done today and tomorrow!  Thanks for looking!

10 photos for August

the summer crop at Piece of Scrap has had us taking a lot of photos this summer!  these pics are for the challenge of 10 photos in August

At the bank where I work we are celebrating 110 years of being in existance this month.  On Friday, August 2 we had a party to celebrate.  These are some of the pretty flowers that we had around the bank that day.

Of course our Northwoods League summer baseball continues through a couple weeks in August.  On the night of August 10 my cousin's daughter went to the game with us.  She is from Wausau, the team we played that night!  La Crosse ended up winning but Ele still had a lot of fun!

Our pitcher who led the league in strikeouts for 2013!

Last weekend I went to a scrapbook retreat for a weekend of crafting ..here are a couple pics of the inside and outside of the house.

The retreat is just a half mile from a bike/walking trail .. these last couple photos are sights along the trail

OWH sketch challenge 186

This past weekend I was at a scrapbook retreat so I was able to get some scrapbooking and cardmaking done.  I finished 9 pages and 9 cards!  Not the amount I wanted to finish, but enough that I was happy

On Sunday morning I finished this week's sketch for the Operation Write Home stars and stamps blog
I love to make Christmas cards and to get cards to heroes for the holidays now is the time to be making them.  This stamps on this card are from a Hero Arts set and the papers are from Stampin' Up and My Mind's Eye

I also made some fallish looking cards for my next operation write home box and here are my favorites from the bunch I made
